We’ve all been there—staring at an endless to-do list, feeling like we’re working hard but getting nowhere. Our energy is scattered, our attention divided, and by the end of the week, we wonder, “What did I actually accomplish?”
The Problem: Energy Without Intention
The truth is, without focus, even our best efforts can feel like we’re spinning our wheels. We take on tasks that seem urgent, but don’t actually align with what matters most to us. In the end, we’re exhausted but unfulfilled.
The question to ask yourself is: Are you focusing on what really moves the needle, or are you getting lost in the noise?
The 80/20 Rule of Focus
The Pareto Principle, or 80/20 Rule, tells us that 80% of our results come from 20% of our efforts. The key to better focus is identifying that 20%—the actions, decisions, and habits that create the biggest impact.
A Quick Exercise to Refocus
1. List Your Tasks: Write down everything you’ve done this week.
2. Identify the Impact: Circle the tasks that actually brought you closer to your goals.
3. Let Go of the Rest: What tasks can you delegate, defer, or ditch entirely?
What Deserves Your Focus Right Now?
As you go through your week, ask yourself:
• Does this task align with my values or goals?
• Am I doing this out of habit, obligation, or fear of saying no?
• Will this make a meaningful difference in my life or work?
Focus isn’t just about doing more—it’s about doing what matters most.
Call to Action
This week, take 10 minutes to identify one key task that aligns with your biggest goal. Focus on it, complete it, and celebrate the progress.
